Our approach

Physio that figures out the why

Most physio treats the place that hurts. We start by asking why it hurts there in the first place. At East Mill, we practice neurofunctional physiotherapy — looking at how your nervous system, movement patterns, and history all connect to what's happening in your body right now.

NEUROFUNCTIONAL APPROACH

We look at the nervous system and the whole picture, not just the area that hurts.

ROOT CAUSE FOCUS

You leave understanding what's going on, not just with exercises and a follow-up.

FOR ACTIVE PEOPLE

Whether you're rehabbing an injury or staying ahead of one, we meet you where you are.

Frequently Asked Questions.

Questions from Fergus physiotherapy patients

Why go to Elora when I live in Fergus?

The drive is about 5 minutes, and many of our patients had tried closer options first. If something hasn't fully resolved, it's worth the short trip to get a different perspective.

How is East Mill Physio Different?

We use a neurofunctional approach, meaning we look at the nervous system and the whole picture, not just where it hurts. It tends to get better results for persistent or complex issues. It is also a one-of-a-kind way to optimize sports performance and prevent injuries.

How many sessions will I need?

This is a tough one to answer. It depends on what's going on. We'll give you an honest answer after your first visit. We're not interested in keeping you coming back longer than you need to.

The number of sessions you need will be dependent on your issue, your general health and your goals. Typically, you should notice improvements within a few sessions. If not, we likely need to reevaluate our treatment plan.

If your problem is relatively new, it may take around 5 sessions for things to get to where you want them. If your issue is longer standing, it may take up to 10 or more sessions. Because of our longer appointment times, we typically meet less frequently than you may have experienced at other Physiotherapy clinics.

We are also big advocates for proactive care (i.e. Performance Care). Once you have recovered from your injury or pain problem, many clients like to continue with regular treatments to keep them functioning fully and feeling good. These may occur on a bi-weekly, monthly or bimonthly basis depending on your goals.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Just yourself and any relevant imaging (X-rays, MRI results). Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. Your first appointment is about an hour and includes a full assessment.

What is Performance Care?

Performance Care is a specialized application of Physiotherapy and Neurofunctional Acupuncture designed to help you maintain and optimize your health and physical function. It is the proactive support that helps your body meet the physical demands required to do the activities you love, for life.

Each Performance Care appointment involves a thorough assessment and treatment of your nerve function, which ultimately dictates your ability to move properly, resist injury and perform optimally. Even in the absence of pain, if we do not have full nerve function, we cannot move fully and perform optimally. Neurofunctional acupuncture can then be used to restore function in the nervous system.
